What is 1099 & W-2 Extraction?
The 1099 and W-2 Extraction feature in the K1 Aggregator helps you automatically detect, read, and map 1099 and W-2 tax forms—just like we already do with K-1s. This streamlines your 1040 filing process and removes the need to manually rekey 1099 & W-2 data. Supported 1099 file types include 1099 INT, 1099 DIV, 1099 B, 1099 OID, and Consolidated 1099 Statements.
How To Access
-
Contact your customer service representative to request access to the 1099 & W-2 Extraction Feature. Your customer service representative will notify you once you have access and schedule a call on how to use this new extraction feature.
-
Go to your K1 Aggregator Tenant > Select an Instance
-
Upload your 1099s and W-2s for that instance.
-
The system will automatically detect 1099s and W-2s and begin extraction.
Validating 1099s & W2s
-
Navigate to the 1099 or W-2 tab in your Manage Investments screen, where you will find your uploaded 1099 and W-2 statements. The list will refresh as your 1099 and W-2 files are uploaded
-
Drill into any 1099 or W2 investment by clicking into the pencil icon in the tools column or clicking in-line into the investment in the Enhanced Grid View of Manage Investments.
- Review your 1099 investments and W2 statements against source data.
- the user interface is conveniently formatted in a way that mirrors the individual forms. Please note that the Consolidated Return is broken out into the sum of its parts (e.g. a 1099 INT, 1099 DIV, 1099 OID, 1099 Gain Loss Tab).
- For the 1099 Gain Loss tab in the Consolidated 1099 view, you are also able to add or edit additional transactions. The default columns (e.g. Proceeds, Cost Basis) reflect fields that are commonly displayed for the most common brokerages.
CCH Integration
After you validate the extracted 1099 and W-2 information, you can integrate that information to CCH. You can follow the same data integration steps in Aggregator and push 1099 and W2 data in the same workflow as the K-1 CCH date integration. Please follow the instructions and tips below on integrating information to CCH.
How to Integrate 1099 and W-2 Data to CCH Axcess
The 1099 and W-2 integration follows the same workflow as K-1 data integration. Once you've reviewed and validated your extracted 1099 and W-2 data in K1 Aggregator, you can push it directly to your CCH Axcess returns.
Integration Steps:
- Prepare your CCH return - Ensure you have a CCH Axcess 1040 return created for the return you're integrating data into.
- Set up required fields in CCH (1099s and W-2s only) - Before attempting integration, you must enter the primary key fields (Account Numbers) into the corresponding 1099 forms in your CCH return. See "Required Fields" below for specific requirements by form type.
- Navigate to CCH Integration in K1 Aggregator - From your Manage Investments screen, select the investments you want to integrate.
- Configure your integration settings - Choose your CCH Axcess connection and select the target return.
- Execute the integration - K1 Aggregator will:
- Match investments using primary keys (Account Numbers for 1099s; SSN + EIN for W-2s)
- Create new investment records in CCH if no match is found
- Update existing investment records if a match is found
- Note: 1099-B (Gain Loss) transactions are integrated individually to CCH
- Review integration results - Check the integration log for any errors or warnings, then verify the data in your CCH return.
1099 CCH Integration - Required Fields:
Primary Keys (also referred to as Required Fields herein) are unique identifiers that facilitate integrations between CCH and K1 Aggregator. For each of the different 1099 form types, users will need to input those primary keys into the CCH return you are integrating into before data integration is attempted. This will allow the system to appropriately find existing investments in the CCH return and update as needed. The inputs for these primary keys must be the same between CCH and K1 Aggregator.
For the 1099-INT, 1099-OID, 1099-B and 1099-DIV, the primary key is the Account Number within the form. For example: If VANGUARD 1099 DIV's Account Number in K-1 Aggregator is 12345, VANGUARD 1099 DIV's Account Number in CCH must also be 12345.
For the Consolidated 1099, the primary key is the Account Number under the General Information section.
Since the 1099-OID is nested within the 1099-INT in CCH, overlapping fields between the 1099-OID and 1099 INT will be summed up if the account numbers match.
W-2 CCH Integration - Required Fields:
The primary key for W-2 will be (1) Employee SSN and (2) Employer ID (EIN) and (3) Control Number. If a match for these fields are found in CCH, Aggregator will match and update the existing W-2 record in the CCH return with new data from Aggregator. You do not have to enter this primary key information into CCH prior to a data integration attempt.
