How to resolve D.C. Form D-20, E-File Validation Error: IncomeTaxes element is invalid

Note: This article covers multiple validation errors, as they all occur within the same section.

Error Messages

The 'http://www.irs.gov/efile:IncomeTaxes' element is invalid - The value '-34567' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.irs.gov/efile:DCUSAmountNNType' - Value '-34567' was either too large or too small for NonNegativeInteger.

The element 'SchE20' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile' has invalid child element 'DCIncomeFranchiseTax' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile'. List of possible elements expected: 'IncomeTaxes' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile'.

Issue: The IRS Schema does not allow for a negative value or Null for Income Taxes

How to Resolve:

  1. Navigate to State Modules -> States -> D.C. -> Form D-20 -> Page 3 -> Schedule E -> Line 2.

  2. Replace the negative or Null value with a positive value or a zero.
  3. Click the "Save" button.
  4. Re-Run the e-file validation tool.
