How to Resolve DC Form D-20, Validation Errors: elements expected: DesigneeName and/or DesigneePhone.

Note: This article covers multiple validation errors, as they all occur within the same section.

Error Messages

  1. The element 'Designee' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile' has invalid child element 'DesigneePhone' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile'. List of possible elements expected: 'AuthInd, DesigneeName' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile'. 
  2. The element 'Designee' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile' has incomplete content. List of possible elements expected: 'DesigneePhone' in namespace 'http://www.irs.gov/efile'.

Issue: Missing data: Designee’s name and/or Phone number

How to Resolve:

  1. Navigate to State Module -> States -> D.C. -> Form D-20 Page 2
  2. Fill in the data in the Officer's and Paid Preparer Signature section
  3. Click the "Save" button
  4. Submit the D.C. State Return
