How to Resolve IRS Rejection, Database Validation Error: BusinessNameControlTxt
Note: A Database Validation Error indicates that the IRS database does not match the information submitted. The provided solution may not always resolve the issue. In such cases, you will need to contact the IRS directly for further assistance.
IRS Rejection Reason
If 'EIN' in the Return Header has a value, then 'EIN' and 'BusinessNameControlTxt' must match data in the e-File database.
RuleNum: TEGE-922
Issue: A mismatch with the client's submitted EIN and/or Business Name Control and the IRS database.
How to Resolve
- Contact IRS tax-exempt hotline at 877.829.5500.
- Provide them with your Business Name Control and your EIN #.
How to find your Business Name Control
Note: By default, the Business Name Control users the first 4 letters from the Name of Organization field.
- Navigate to any part of 990 Tracker
- Click on the Wrench Icon in the Tools Bar to access the E-file

- Click on the "View XML for Form" link under the E-file Validation Tab

- Search for "BusinessNameControlTxt"
- Provide the 4 character Business Name Control to the IRS
