How to Use the K-1 Packager

The K-1 Packager is the final step in the K1 Creator project workflow. This is where you build, configure, generate, and download K-1 packages for your investors. Follow the steps below to complete the process.

Step 1: Create a New K-1 Package

  1. Click K-1 Packager in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click the Add K-1 Package button in the popup that appears.
  3. Enter a name for the package.
  4. Select any applicable options using the four checkboxes explained in the table below.
  5. Click Save. The package will appear as a new row in the K-1 Packager grid.

Suppress Overflow Statements

Include Sub-Line Detail

Generates a Part 3 overflow statement with individual underlying line items from the current net income/loss section for sections 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, and 20. Note: selecting this option will also include investors with zero inputs.

Step 2: Manage Packages in the Grid

The K-1 Packager grid displays all K-1 packages associated with the project. Use the search bar at the top of the page to find a specific package by name.

For each package row, the following actions are available:

  • Pencil icon — Edit the package name, scenario (if applicable), and the four checkbox options
  • Three-dot action icon — View the K-1 package or delete it

Step 3: Open a Package and Add Sections

To begin building a K-1 package, click on the package name in the grid. This opens the package detail page.

At the top of the page is a Back to K-1 Package List button to return to the grid at any time. Below that is the Manage K-1 Package area.

To add a section:

  1. Click the Add Section button.
  2. Enter a name for the section.
  3. Select one of the two layout options using the radio buttons:
    1. Start each statement on a new page
    2. Print statements continuously
  4. Click Save. The section will appear in the Manage K-1 Package area.

Step 4: Add Documents to a Section

Each section can contain one or more documents. To add documents to a section:

  1. Click the three-dot action icon on the section row.
  2. Click Add Document.
  3. Select one of the four document types:

Document Type

Description

K-1 File

Adds a K-1 form output — select scenario (if applicable) and jurisdictions

File Upload

Upload an external file to include in the package

K-3 File

Adds a K-3 form output

Statements

Adds a statement created on the Statements page

If you select K-1 File, complete the following:

  1. If additional scenarios exist for the project, select the applicable scenario from the Scenario dropdown. If no additional scenarios exist, this field will not appear.
  2. In the Select Jurisdiction dropdown, choose the jurisdictions to include. US Federal is selected by default. All other jurisdictions available in the dropdown are those that were turned on during the Jurisdictions setup step.
  3. Click Add Documents.

Step 5: Review and Manage Documents

After adding documents to a section, click the down arrow on the section row to expand it and view the documents included. Each document row shows how many investors will receive that document in their K-1 package.

The following actions are available from the document row action icon:

  • Edit Document — Returns you to the document popup to make changes to the configuration
  • Update Investor Association — Opens a list of all investors associated with the package. All investors are selected by default. Uncheck any investors who should not receive this specific document, then click Associate Investors. The investor count on the document row will update accordingly.

💡 You can add all four document types to a single package. Documents within a section can be reordered by dragging them into the desired sequence.

Step 6: Set Custom File Names (optional)

The investor grid to the right of the Manage K-1 Package area lists all investors included in the package along with their K-1 package generation status. You can assign a custom file name for each investor's package:

  • Manually — Click into the custom file name field directly in the investor grid row and enter the name
  • Via import — Click the Import button at the top of the investor grid, download the template (which includes all investors in the package), add the custom file names in the provided column, and import the completed template

Step 7: Generate K-1 Packages

Once the package is configured, select the investors you want to generate packages for and begin the generation process. Generating the packages initiates all calculation and validation steps needed to complete the build.

To generate packages:

  1. Check the box next to each investor you want to generate or select all investors.
  2. Click the Generate button at the top of the investor grid.

During generation, each investor row will display one of the following statuses:

Status

Description

Queued

The package is waiting to begin processing

In Progress

The package is currently being built

Generated

The package has been successfully created and is ready to download

Step 8: Download and Manage Generated Packages

Once packages have been generated, the following actions become available per investor row in the grid:

  • Lock — Locks the package so no further changes can be made to it
  • Generate (single) — Regenerate the package for a specific investor, either via the inline action button or by checking that investor's row and clicking Generate at the top
  • Download (single) — Download the K-1 package for a specific investor, either via the inline action button or by checking that investor's row and clicking the Download button at the top of the page

💡 The K-1 Packager is the final step in the K1 Creator project process. Once packages are generated and downloaded, they are ready for distribution to investors.
