How K-1 Reader (Upload) Matches Investments Automatically

Understanding how the K-1 Aggregator matches incoming K-1 documents to existing investments can help you streamline your review process and avoid duplicate investments.

Our system uses a step-by-step matching logic to automatically associate documents with the correct records — prioritizing accuracy while minimizing manual work.

🔍 Matching Logic Overview

When a new K-1 is uploaded, K-1 Aggregator uses the following order of logic to find the correct pre-existing investment record:

  1. Partnership EIN (Employer Identification Number)
    • If there is a single unique match to a pre-existing record using the Partnership EIN, that match is used.
    • No further matching logic is applied unless there is a differentiating component in the order outlined below.
  2. Partner EIN/SSN
    • If the Partnership EIN does not yield a unique match, we attempt to match based on the Partner's EIN or SSN.
  3. Disregarded Entity EIN
    • We then look to match using the EIN of any disregarded entities associated with the Partner.
  4. Partnership Name
    • If the record still hasn't matched, we compare the name of the Partnership from the K-1 against the names of existing investments.
  5. Partner Name
    • As a final fallback, we attempt to match based on the name of the Partner.
💡 Best Practices for Ensuring Accurate Matching

To maximize the effectiveness of automatic matching:

  • Use consistent naming conventions when creating new investments.
  • If the Partnership EIN is obfuscated on one PDF, but not the other, a duplicate may be created.
  • If you are experiencing issues with duplicate investments, you can override the matching logic by using the inline Reader upload tool located in the Investment tools as shown here:
